Welcome to the Derby Maths Society 20/21

I'm over the moon to be elected President of the Derby University Maths Society for 2020/21. Thank you! Also thank you very much to last year's President, Adam Ruse, who set up the new society. We hope to welcome you back at our Alumni events, quizzes and social events in the coming year.

Your new committee includes Tim Green and Isaac Maskill-Watts, both 2nd year Mathematics, who's posts as Secretary and Treasurer respectively are rolled over from last year. Jake Andrews, also 2nd year Maths, is your new Operations Officer.

Last year saw the foundations of the society created with a new website, social media accounts, regular pub quiz gatherings and the maths video project. This year we aim to rapidly expand these projects and build membership. We will also continue working with the department to support their efforts in providing opportunities for gaining maths skills to anyone who wants or needs them across the university. This will be provided mainly via the Maths Hub (drop in Maths help) and the online Maths Literacy Certificates which can be used to prove basic to intermediate level maths to employers.

We are interested to hear from anyone who would like to help with the Maths Video Project. If you are studying in any area of Media Production at the University and looking for a case study for your portfolio please get in touch and add your unique take on the visualisation of maths. If you're a lecturer who would like information for your students who might be looking for case studies, please email 100525858@unimail.derby.ac.uk and we'll send you details.

In the meantime we hope you have a relaxing and safe summer and we look forward to catching up with you all again next year. Best wishes from everyone on the Committee: Tim, Zac, Jake and Natalie.
